Viral Moisturizer Battle: The Originote VS Ceramon, Was It Worth the Hype?

I bet you girlies must’ve heard the fuss on your social media about The Originote Hyalucera moisturizer and Ceramon moisturizer. Lately, these two local moisturizers have been a hot topic on social media, especially TikTok, because of how good their ingredients are compared to their relatively affordable price. People are comparing these two moisturizers and having a huge debate on which is better. So, hear me out because I have tried both. Especially if you’re one of the oily skin girlies, stay tune because this is for you.

Price

Both moisturizers are considered affordable for me as a student because both are below Rp 100 000. Stated from Shopee, The Originote Hyalucera moisturizer are sold for Rp 42 000 for 50ml and Ceramon moisturizer are sold for Rp 69 500 for 50ml which means that The Originote Hyalucera is a quite cheaper than the Ceramon moisturizer.

Texture

As an oily skin girlie, I usually struggle with finding moisturizer that is not oily, lightweight, and could still give my skin enough hydration. Well, both moisturizers are lightweight because they are both water-based and have a watery-gel texture. Based on my observation, I found that the Ceramon moisturizer seems to have a thicker consistency compared to The Originote Hyalucera moisturizer. Although it has a thicker consistency, I feel like Ceramon moisturizer is way better at controlling the oil production of my face while keeping it hydrated compared to The Originote Hyalucera moisturizer even though it has a thinner consistency. Compared to The Originote Hyalucera moisturizer, Ceramon moisturizer also felt less sticky and absorbed more quickly into my skin. However, I do think that The Originote Hyalucera moisturizer provides a better base for makeup compared to Ceramon moisturizer because it has quite a “sticky” dry-down which helps my cushion to apply more smoothly and “sticks” even when my skin was breaking out, without cracks. Although, it must be noted that because it is not that great at oil-control, so, I must set the cushion with some loose powder to help with oil-control. I would recommend both moisturizers for normal-oily skin and combination skin girlies because of the watery-gel texture. However, I would recommend The Originote Hyalucera moisturizer as a primer rather than being used as a moisturizer because it works way better as a base for makeup. Also, I don’t think that it will be suitable for dry skin types because I don’t think that it provides enough hydration for dry skin, I would recommend brands like CeraVe, Labore, or Somethinc instead.

Ingredients

The Originote Hyalucera moisturizer’s key ingredients are double hyaluronic acid, ceramide, panthenol, chlorella and spirulina while the Ceramon moisturizer’s key ingredients are ceramide, salmon DNA, triple hyaluronic acid, mugwort, cica, algae extract, panthenol, squalan, polyglutamic acid. Ceramon moisturizer has more complete ingredient compared to The Originote Hyalucera moisturizer. Both moisturizer seems to be more focused on skin-soothing ingredients that could repair your skin barrier and provides deep hydration for your skin. However, I noticed that Ceramon moisturizer seems to have squalane which helps with hydration, anti-aging, and oil-control, which explains why Ceramon moisturizer seems to be better in oil-controlling compared to The Originote Hyalucera moisturizer. Ceramon moisturizer also has anti-aging and brightening agent which is salmon DNA, and soothing properties such as panthenol, algae extract, cica, and mugwort. Both moisturizer does not contain any active ingredients which means that it is safe to be layered with other skincare which has active ingredients such as retinol, BHA, vitamin C, etc. However, I found out that chlorella and spirulina in The Originote Hyalucera moisturizer is pore clogging which explains why I got small breakouts while using it. Judging from the ingredients and price, Ceramon moisturizer seems to be a better deal because it has more complete and multifunction ingredients.

Claims and Reality

Quoting from their TikTok shop account, The Originote Hyalucera moisturizer claims to be able to repair skin barriers, locks hydration in your skin, maintains skin rejuvenation and elasticity while Ceramon moisturizer claims to be able to strengthen and repair skin barriers, increase skin elasticity, reduce inflammation, reduce bumps, sooth, calms, and hydrate skin. Both also claim to be sensitive and acne prone skin friendly. From my experience, The Originote Hyalucera moisturizer is definitely not acne prone skin friendly because it contains pore cloggers which worsened my closed comedones. However, it does feel hydrating but still not enough for me. I can’t really feel the other claims, it only feels moisturizing and that’s it. For the Ceramon moisturizer, I feel that it is sensitive and acne prone skin friendly. During my PMS, I usually get extremely irritated and red, and I feel like this moisturizer helps to soothe and calms down my skin which reduces the inflammation. It is also really hydrating but still great at oil-control which makes me love it even more. However, I don’t think that it reduces the bumps and closed comedones for my skin, it does nothing to it. The bright side is that I noticed that it helps to speed up my acne scars healing time even though it is not mentioned in the claim.

Packaging

Personally, I like it better when products use pump bottle compared to jar because I feel like it is much more hygienic. When a product is inside of a jar, even with a spatula or clean hands, I feel like it could still bring cross-contamination to the rest of the product while taking some out to use. Using a pump is much more efficient and hygienic because it does not allow you to get in contact with the rest of the product besides the product that you pumped out to use which means that it prevents cross-contamination of the rest of the product. Pump bottles are also more travel friendly compared to jars because they are more compact and efficient. The Ceramon moisturizer uses an airless pump bottle which I really love and sells refills to reduce plastic waste, I think it is a very considerate and thoughtful move. The Originote Hyalucera moisturizer still uses a jar for their product, and I really hope that they can improve their packaging by changing the packaging to a pump bottle.

Conclusion

I think you guys could guess which moisturizer will be my pick. The Ceramon moisturizer really is worth the hype and totally worth buying. I still repurchase this moisturizer time after time because of the affordable price, great benefits, and thoughtful packaging.
